Michael Jackson’s Thriller is no longer the highest selling US album of all time

The Eagles’ Greatest Hits album has once again surpassed Michael Jackson’s Thriller as the highest selling US album of all time.

Shortly after his passing in 2009, Michael Jackson’s album Thriller overtook The Eagles’ Greatest Hits album to become the highest-selling album in US history.

Though now, according to Recording Industry Association of America, The Eagles have decisively reclaimed their crown.

Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) – the first album to ever go platinum – has now sold over 38,000,000 copies… meaning it has gone platinum 38 times over. Thriller, however, has only sold a mere 33,000,000 copies, placing Jackson far behind Don Henley and his band.

The Eagles also hold the title for third highest selling US album of all time, for their ridiculously popular 1976 release Hotel California – which has gone platinum 26 times.

We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at radio, and, most of all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the ups and downs of 46 years,” Henley said in a statement. “It’s been quite a ride.”
