Amyl and the Sniffers, a Melbourne based, four-piece punk band, have won the latest Levi’s Music Prize. Now in it’s third year, the Levi’s Music Prize awards the winning band or artist with $30,000 to assist with their burgeoning careers.
The prize is awarded to Australian and New Zealand bands or artists who have previously showcased their work at BIGSOUND festival. This round’s winner, Amyl and the Sniffers, played BIGSOUND back in 2017 before taking their sound (and mullets) international.
A big congratulations to Amyl and the Sniffers, the latest recipients of the Levi’s Music Prize and a handy $30,000 cash.
Amyl and the Sniffers had an incredibly successful 2018 following their BIGSOUND showcase. Heading over to the UK to play The Great Escape, and then touring the US with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard introduced the band to the world stage. After playing a series of sold out shows in Europe and the UK, Amyl and the Sniffers then signed to Rough Trade Records.
The awarding of the Levi’s Music Prize to the band will only further their ability to take the world by its horns. They said in a statement that they intend on using the money to head back to the US and play South by Southwest in Texas.
“It’s great that Levi’s give this opportunity to bands and even sicker that one of the bands is us hehe. We’re excited to get back over to the States and play heaps of gigs before we put out our album in May. Filthy!!!!”
