Since their conception in 2010, the Melbourne four-piece have been releasing one punk-fuelled song after another and developed a quickly expanding cult following. Their nostalgic sound, which touches on elements of rock and new wave from decades past, has seen them secure national tour slots with the likes of British India, Stonefield and Harts – an impressive feat. To top it all off, Magic Bones’ latest single spent eight weeks in the Australian Independent Radio Charts, peaking at #2.

Danger I Am is the latest tune to be released from the group, and sees our first taste of Magic Bones’ presumably kickass forthcoming album. Right from the get-go, Danger I Am is an explosive, high impact, high energy number that rocks you to your core with blazing riffs and thrashing percussion. Gritty guitar tones are all the rage with this band, creating a sound that’s both reminiscent of 70s punk and 80s post-punk but still modern and incredibly engaging. The hasty vocals of Dylan Thorpe combined with Kiri O’Connor’s sweet but powerful singing make for a well-rounded song that demands to be played over and over.
Past singles like Anytime Anywhere and Round The Block are equally as dynamic, drawing together grungy fuzzed out guitars and unwavering rock hooks for one hell of a sound. Round The Block dips into rockabilly territory with fast paced singing and a series of electric chords around the half way mark, whereas Anytime Anywhere embodies the garage stylings Magic Bones are known for. All three singles have received endless praise and reoccurring plays from music publications and personal blogs alike, including the wonderful folks at triple J.
Magic Bones are no strangers to executing killer live performances, having two headline tours and two national support slots under their belt in 2015. Their next show sees the four-piece bring all the energy and conviction they can muster to Melbourne’s Shebeen Bandroom on January 29, supported by Mild Manic and Ali E.
