Heard It In A Past Life proves Maggie Rogers is a force to be reckoned with

Even before the release of her debut album, Maryland-born singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers had accrued an international fanbase rivalling fellow musicians who’ve been releasing music for years. The singer-songwriter makes music that’s slightly off-centre, that sounds normal until you listen again, and again, and again.

Perhaps that’s why her music has been streamed hundreds of millions of times the world over; people can’t seem to figure out Maggie Rogers and how she manages to produce such enigmatic music whilst maintaining a sense of humble normality. Today marks the release of her debut album Heard It In A Past Life, an album that’s been years in the making but one that we can already tell will be one of the most talked about releases of 2019.

Showcasing both assertive confidence and raw vulnerability, Maggie Rogers today presents her debut album Heard It In A Past Life to fans the world over.

A New York University Tisch School of the Arts Graduate, Rogers released her debut EP Now That The Light Is Fading back in 2017. Since then, the artist has released a handful of remixes and original works. Heard It In A Past Life is Rogers’ first album.

Her latest release Heard It In A Past Life includes the song that gave Rogers international acclaim. Alaska has accrued over 100 million global streams to date. The album was written entirely by Rogers and was produced by Greg Kurstin, Kid Harpoon and Rogers together.

The first release of the album Light On is a song that is held close to Rogers’ heart. The song is an elegy to her fans, a thank you for giving her the opportunity to make songwriting and performing the foundations on which she has built a life.

“This song is a letter to my fans about the last two years of my life,” says Rogers.

“There was so much change that happened so fast, I wasn’t always sure how to make all this stuff feel like me. I was really overwhelmed for a while, and scared too – my life became so public so fast and there were times I wasn’t sure that this was all for me. But I never had doubts about the music. And every night I got on stage and was reminded of why I love doing this.”

“This is the most vulnerable I’ve felt in a song and it’s me saying thank you for all the light my fans brought me when I couldn’t find it for myself. I love music more than anything else in the whole world and I always have. This song is me actively choosing this life – in my way and in my time. I couldn’t be more excited that “Light On” is out in the world.

The album showcases Rogers’ powerfully vulnerable voice. The dissonance between the tracks and the vocals is sometimes eery but always powerful. No wonder she’s developed such a passionate fan base the world over; even publishing giants The New Yorker are big fans, claiming that Rogers is “an artist of her time”.
