Lowell – We Loved Her Dearly

We love Lowell dearly. No, seriously. With her quirky-cute, sunshine pop and light as a feather vocals, Elizabeth Lowell Boland, who performs under the moniker Lowell, is our fave new pop princess. The rising Canadian singer-songwriter creates contagiously catchy, synth-pop melodies that address rape, women’s rights, and empowerment. You go girl.

Happy are very happy about the discovery of Lowell and her chic indie pop tunes- enjoy the sweet dispositions that will be coming your way.

Born in Calgary and now based in Toronto and London, Lowell first burst onto the scene with a collaborative mini-album project with the Apparatjik collective, featuring Grammy-winning producer Martin Terefe, members of A-ha, Coldplay, and MEW. She’s since released debut EP I Killed Sara V., a five-track recollection of teenage angst, vocalised through infectious powerhouse pop. Cloud 69 is musical dynamite – explosive, ferocious and exuberant, much like Lowell herself.

More recently, the Canadian songstress has just released her debut full-length album We Loved Her Dearly, which is abundant in her signature catchy, angsty, strawberry bubblegum pop melodies. Recorded with Swedish producer Martin Terefe (Mary J. Blige, Jason Mraz, KT Tunstall), We Loved Her Dearly features familiar tracks from IKSV, as well as fresh new singles. First single LGBT is a poppy jam with a sing-a-long chorus that “promotes love, equality, and inclusion”.

Tongue-in-cheek and enthusiastic, I Love You Money is replete with handclaps, an infectious hook and streaks of cheery pop. Lowell’s Summertime isn’t as dark and depressing as Miss Del Rey’s, but still reflects a noticeably more down-tempo and reflective aesthetic than what we’re used to hearing from the pop chanteuse. But with her masterful heavenly falsetto delivered over waves of subtle piano and anthemic percussion, Lowell will inspire summer reveries over sadness.

Lowell is Toronto’s very own punk rock/feminist/indie pop princess and we’re certain she’s going to continue paving the way for music with a message. Lowell’s debut solo full-length We Loved Her Dearly is out now through Arts & Crafts.
