A lost Thelonious Monk live album has been found in a skip bin, and is set for release

This September, a lost recording of a Thelonious Monk concert will be released for the first time through Gearbox Records.

The recording is of a 1963 performance in Copenhagen, during what many consider to be the peak of Monk’s career.

A lost 1963 live recording of Thelonious Monk has been recovered from a skip bin, and is set for a remastered release this September.

For the 1963 performance, Monk stood alongside his most critically acclaimed lineup of Charlie Rouse on saxophone, John Ore on double bass, and Frankie Dunlop on drums.

According to Gearbox, the recording has been remastered from the original tapes, which were found in a skip bin.

The new release will be available in two variants: standard black LP and limited edition clear LP with a signature embossed 30 x 30 cm Monk photographic print by Val Wilmer.

You can pre-order the album here.
