UPDATED: In an Instagram live on December 30, Lana Del Rey announced that her new album Norman Fucking Rockwell is “completely finished”.

Yesterday, she confirmed on Instagram that she has also completed her afore-promised book of poetry. In the same post, she shared a brief snippet of the song, which carries the long-winded title, Hope Is a Dangerous Thing For a Woman Like Me to Have – But I Have It. The full song will be out on January 9.

Lana Del Rey fans will be pleased to hear that, this week, the starlet announced both a new album and a collection of private poetry, one that she’d never planned on releasing to the public.

The announcement comes just after Del Rey released two massive clips within a week of each other.

Del Rey’s latest release, Venice Bitch, is the longest song in her catalogue at a whopping ten minutes. In typical Lana fashion, she sings in a deep, disinterested voice and references Americana over 1970s-style guitar riffs.

Her fans will not be disappointed.

Del Rey’s sixth studio album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, is due for release next year. She spoke to Beats 1 host Zane Lowe about working on the new album with Bleacher’s Jack Antonoff:

“Working with Jack , I was in a little bit of a lighter mood because he was so funny. So the title track is called ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell,’ and it’s kind of about this guy who is such a genius artist but he thinks he’s the shit and he knows it and he won’t shut up talking about it.”

“So often I ended up with these creative types or whatever and, you know, they just go on and on about themselves, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah’. But there’s a little bit of merit to it also. They are so good. I just like the title track so much that I was like, OK, I definitely want the record to also be called that.”

In the same interview, Del Rey also took the opportunity to reveal plans to one day release a book of poetry:

“I have like 13 kind of long poems that I started binding and I thought, ‘Wow, the pages are kind of stacking up here.’ I mean, it’s easy too with haikus because it’s only three lines so you could have like 30 pages of haikus that’s only like 200 words or something.”

The collection is tentatively called Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass, a line from one of the poems in her book.

Norman Fucking Rockwell will be released in 2019.
