John and Yoko’s ground-breaking film ‘Imagine’ is being re-released in theatres with new material

A restored and remixed version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s ground-breaking film Imagine is getting a re-release in theatres around the world this September, reports Pitchfork.

A remixed and restored version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1972 film Imagine is being re-released in theatres, featuring 15 minutes of new footage.

The original film, released in 1972, documented the recording of Lennon’s 1971 album Imagine in New York and the UK, alongside home footage soundtracking the entire track list of the album and songs from Ono’s Fly. Produced and directed by John and Yoko, the film stars the likes of Andy Warhol, Dick Cavett, Jack Nicholson, and Miles Davis.

The new cut includes 15 minutes of previously unseen material, including footage of Lennon performing in the studio with George Harrison, the Rolling Stones’ Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voormann, and Alan White from Yes.

“Remastered frame-by-frame from the original film negative and completely remixed from the ground up, from the original first-generation audio multi-tracks in stunning Dolby Atmos and 7.1 Surround Sound,” reads the trailer description.
