Joe Strummer’s solo work to be collected in huge new box set

UPDATE: Ahead of the box set’s release, a new short film filled with unreleased music and footage of Strummer has been released in celebration of his 66th birthday. Watch the clip below.

Founding member of The Clash, Joe Strummer, is set to have his entire solo output collected in a massive new box set.

Titled Joe Strummer 001, the new collection will feature recordings from his time with the 101ers and The Mescaleros, as well as his work for film soundtracks.

Good news Clash fans! Joe Strummer’s solo catalogue is getting collected into one huge box set, which you’ll be able to get your hands on later this year.

All tracks in the new collection have been restored and mastered by Peter J. Moore, who has worked on material for Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Neko Case, and a heap of others.

On going through cassettes and recording tapes it was discovered that Joe was rather frugal and keen on hiding tracks. On cassettes he would leave 20 minutes between songs,” a press statement on the album stated.

On the 1” 8 track recordings it was discovered there were hidden tracks superimposed onto each other. For example tracks 1-4 were taken by one song and tracks 5-8 by two other songs which were thought when played back to be caused by tape denigration until the tapes went to Peter J Moore who was able to separate one song from another.”

The new box set will be available in a number of formats, all of which you can pre-order here.
