Jeremy Neale isn’t entirely new to the music scene, having played a pivotal role in the success of multi piece Brisbane based band Velociraptor. However, 2013 is the year that young Jeremy splashed out into the Australian music pool as a solo spy rock pioneer and the ripples are still being felt.
Never has a skivvy looked this good on a grown man, and he has the charm and good humour to match. His ultra boppy tune In Stranger Times (featuring Go Violets) is not only a fun fest of 60’s harmonies but it also has in my opinion one of the greatest music clips I have ever seen. And believe me, I grew up watching Rage, Recovery and Video Hits (don’t judge me) so I have seen more than my fair share.
Among the long list of 2013 achievements, including winning Triple J’s Unearthed St Jerome’s Laneway Festival competition, supporting Aussie talents Ball Park Music and The Preatures on their respective tours, and headlining a tour of his own, Jeremy Neale also released his debut EP. Wow.
Many musos have tried to bring the rapture of 60’s music back into the modern era with varying success. What Jeremy Neale has done is unleash contagious nostalgia without committing too much to a specific genre and style. There is definitely an affinity for upbeat 60’s pop but there is also a measure of brooding jazz coalescing nicely with the underground garage rock ‘n’ roll in tracks Swing Left and A Love Affair To Keep You There.
Jeremy Neale will be supporting fellow Brisbane band The John Steel Singers on an East Coast tour this February and March. It’s sure to be a sonic celebration of good humour and great music so be sure not to miss out, bra.
