Following the 2017 release of their debut record When Are You Going To Give Up On Me So I Can Give Up On Myself, the band returned to their Footscray rehearsal space to piece together another.
Jackson Reid Briggs & The Heaters unleash eleven tracks of fierce and unadulterated Australian punk with their latest album Spit On It & Give It A Name.
Created with the aim of instilling a rawer sound, the album mirrors the dynamism of the band’s live shows.
Recorded in a single day with long-time collaborator Ryan Potter, mixing and mastering took place in the weeks following with close friend Wade Keighran. What we’re left with is a ferociously fast-paced and badass collection of tunes, coloured by a scorched-earth attitude.
Brash and to-the-point, the tracks all flow with honest Australiana elements and chugging melodies. Perhaps this forms out of the band’s eclectic mix of musical touchstones seen in Townes Van Zandt, The Saints, Paul Kelly, Slint, AC/DC, The Gun Club and Beasts of Burbon.
The songs are consistent in their drive and outlook. Bending Bones is a theatrical head-banger bolstered by hammering vocals, while Nothing Matters lays an airier beat with an oomph that breaks like a mighty wave.
On A Boat amps up the home-grown ambience with intriguing reverb and Seaside stirs up so much anarchic aggression it will make you want to punch the beach – living entity or not.
Spit On It & Give It A Name is available via Bandcamp now. The group will be celebrating the vinyl release of their LP with a launch via Grubby Publications at the Grace Darling Hotel on May 13.
