After swooping in to save the day following the very ugly demise of Soundwave and AJ Maddah, the crowd funded Legion music festival looked to be the last hope heavy music fans had. Although the festival fell short of their $3 million crowd funding goal, the organisers have announced today that the funds have been met and the festival will definitely go ahead in 2017.
Legion came about amongst many cries from the public that festivals weren’t accommodating heavier acts, and with the fall of Soundwave all hope seemed to be lost. Like the knight in shining armour he is, John Sankey spearheaded efforts to bring Legion to life, and punters were more than willing to help the event get some legs with a reported $365 730 raised earlier this year. According to the festival’s announcement this morning the remaining funds were raised by the organisers through private funding.
The festival is scheduled to run over the Australia Day weekend in 2017, with dates set for Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Mini-festival events will also take place in Adelaide and Perth. You can find a list of the bands on the bill below.
