Introducing Bare Grillz

Last week I wrote about Gung Ho, a trio of boys. Now I’m writing about another trio of boys. Are boys best when they come in threes? Don’t answer that. This trio is Bare Grillz, and no not that piss drinking fool from the UK, but rather the punk threesome from Newcastle.

bare grillz

Friends is their debut full length album which was released right at the very beginning of this year through Y202 & Dream Damage. Stating that it is ”the product of several years and several journeys,” the thirteen track album is a riotous explosion of edgy punk which sounds quite unlike anything I’ve heard in a really, really long time. Or at all.

The entire album is filled with noise, tension and energy. It switches between murky, jangly and sombre echoes to screaming and rasping crazy twitchy-eye music. They must consume a lot of throat lozenges. Your granny won’t be keen, but that’s A-OK. Track, International Hair Model made me think of that time my boyfriend was asked to be a hair model. This song personifies my jealousy.

The people of New Zealand are lucky ducks because the guys are about to go on a tour of the North Island to coincide with their appearance at Camp A Low Hum. Catch them if you can.
