Introducing Atolls

Atolls are an energetic, raw 3 peice hailing from Melbourne that provide a nice middle ground between the grease stained ballads of The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the pop sensibilities of The Dandy Warhols.

atolls

The fuzz drenched chord progressions of frontman Lucas Skinner combined with the surf style bass of Oli Grinter are an Atolls staple. The psychedelic sounding combination of these two elements usually leads bands into making slower music/eating LSD with every meal, yet the sound is utilised by Atolls to instead provide high energy driving tunes akin to The Black Lips.

Atolls Hair Machine E.P. released in April last year is a refreshing listen for anybody who enjoys their music with a bit of charming grit and a glass of cheap whiskey. Tracks such as ‘Words’ bring a psych-pop feel to the surface while utilising chunky fuzz ridden riffs and vocals similar to Scottish 3 piece The 1990s. Others such as Worn (my personal favourite) are written like ballads from the hands of a time travelling cowboy whom, upon arriving in the present, picked up an electric guitar and learned to surf.

If you havent already given this trio a listen I thoroughly recommend you give their EP a well deserved whirl and a boogie will surely ensue. Give it and their new single Dwell Breaker a listen for free on their bandcamp – show some support and give em some of your hard earned cash in return for a sweet as download.
