Happy Mag’s guide to the Hear65 BIGSOUND showcase

Brisbane’s BIGSOUND Festival is nearly here and as you know, it signifies a huge annual showcase of some incredibly diverse and eclectic talent from across the country, and around the globe.

Here’s our essential guide to guarantee you see some of Hear65’s mega-talented international acts coming to us straight from Singapore.

Hear65’s BIGSOUND showcase is bringing you some of the biggest and best acts from Singapore. This year’s sets are going to make for a performance you won’t want to miss.

Joining this year’s showcase are Charlie Lim, Intriguant, Linying and The Steve McQueens. These acts are guaranteed to bring a one-of-a-kind aspect to the festival, so here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know about the performers.

Charlie Lim

Charlie Lim is a producer, singer and songwriter who has been making waves across the international scene with an array of chilled out acoustic tracks, brightly re-imagined pop, and evocative indie electronica.

Lim has just released a standout single, Welcome Home, pulled from a much anticipated record due later this year. The single coincides perfectly with his venture into to Australia to perform at this year’s BIGSOUND Festival, and you’re not going to want to miss it.

If you’re into artists like Touch Sensitive, Hayden James and Set Mo, you’re really going to dig Lim. Recently speaking to Purple Sneakers, he described the themes of his forthcoming record.

A lot of the songs on this new record are about the relationship with pursuing something that you love doing. I often find myself questioning the idea of one’s purpose and where we get our sense of validation from. I think it’s something we can all relate to, especially in this day and age where we’re constantly trying to find our ‘ikigai’ while FOMO-ing from lack of self-actualisation.”

Intriguant is one of Singapore’s fastest growing and most unique DJs in the scene right now. His BIGSOUND performance will follow the release of a brand new remix by Daisuke Tanabe of his past single Recluse, all ahead of an upcoming remix album due this September.

The remix is a brand new, intricate take on the original single, providing a unique fusion of syncopated beats and entrancing rhythmic layers. Intriguant talks about the formation of the Recluse remix:

The creation of the remix was an incredibly organic process, Daisuke Tanabe has breathed new life into the music.”
