Happy Mag’s definitive guide to Sydney Beer & BBQ Festival

Later this month, Adelaide’s Beer & BBQ Festival will stretching its arms into Sydney… and holy shit, I’m excited.

As a resident of Sydney, a drinker of beer, a consumer of barbecue, and a lover of music… Sydney Beer & BBQ Fest is what I’ve always imagined heaven would be like – a holy combination of all life’s joys.

Beer & BBQ Festival is descending upon Sydney this month, and we here at Happy Mag are providing you with a definitive guide to this incredible event.

Music

Alright, let’s begin with music, shall we?

Although not mentioned in the Festivals name, this year’s Sydney Beer & BBQ Fest will boast a huge lineup of great home-grown music.

On the first night of the festival, Aussie faves The Preatures, HOLY HOLY, Jen Cloher, Maddy Jane, Mojo Juju, The Gooch Palms, and a heap more will be performing across two stages. I shouldn’t need to tell you this… but this is an A+ lineup.

The proceedings will hosted by Matty Matheson from VICELAND’s Dead Set On Life and Suppertime.

Beer

Ooh boy. As if watching your favourite band weren’t enough… why not do it while sipping on a glass of quality beer.

Living up to its name, Sydney Beer & BBQ Fest will feature a massive catalogue of some of the country’s best brewers, including our mates over at Young Henry’s, and many many more.

Also joining in on the fun will be international guest brewer Franz Horak from BrewDog. Horak has been in the brewing game since 2010, and has been responsible for the release some incredible beers. Later this month he’ll bringing his knowledge down under.

BBQ

All this beer and great music will probably get you feeling hungry. Luckily enough, SBBF will be hosting some of Sydney’s best restaurants and chefs, as well as some inter-state and international guests.

This year’s BBQ Ambassador will be Duncan Welgemoed, who will be curating the menus of all BBQers.

Also coming along will be the boys from The Lansdowne Hotel, Texas-style barbecurator Bovine & Swine, Mary’s Burgers, Shannon Martinez, and a whole lot of others.

Across the four days, you’ll also get to rummage around a pop-up vinyl store, peruse though some markets, and get a wool-pull at a barbershop.

June 29th can’t come soon enough.

Check out the full list of brewers, chefs, speakers, and musicians over at the festival website.
