Get your bucket lists out, a David Bowie themed cocktail bar is opening

Pull out your bucket lists, a David Bowie themed cocktail bar is opening in London this month, inspired by one of the most iconic personas of his entire career.

When the legend sadly passed in 2016, the whole world mourned his absence. The new Bowie bar was proposed as a means of celebrating his life, art and music in all its weird, wonderful and creative glory.

The David Bowie themed bar will be named Ziggy’s in an ode to his iconic 1972 album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.

The venue holds a pretty wonderful significance for the artist too, making it all the more special.

Bowie held a massive party to retire his tastemaking alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, at the Hotel Café Royal on July 3 1973, which is the exact location of the brand new venue created in his memory.

The retirement party played host to some of the biggest stars of the time including the likes of Mick Jagger, Barbra Streisand and Paul McCartney.

Fabio Spinetti, the hotel’s bars and beverages manager, spoke to NME about the significance of the new Ziggy Venue.

“Café Royal has always been the place where great minds would come to discuss great ideas. David Bowie played a really important part in Café Royal’s history, with the famous ‘Last Supper’ taking place here. It only seems fitting to provide a homage to one of our most esteemed patrons.

“Each drink includes carefully considered liqueurs and garnishes, all a tribute to Bowie’s life and his eccentric character and the change that he brought to the 1970s not just to music but to life itself.”

All of the crazy cocktails featuring on the menu are named after various songs and lyrics from the 1973 album, including the Femme Fatale, a Bowie-esque twist of a classic martini.

Other concoctions include a Tiger on Vaseline, which is basically a huge, amped up Pina Colada which draws its name from track Hang on to Yourself.

If you’re not into that, there’s an epic Lady Stardust-inspired drink, a Darkness and Disgrace which fuses an espresso martini with a rum flip.

An exciting tribute to the man who changed music, art and the world as we know it, and pretty delicious sounding cocktails. It doesn’t get better than this folks.
