So fresh off the release of the EP, we caught up with Mictian for a playlist of tunes that have influenced his sound.

Fresh off the release of his new EP The Dream State, we asked New Zealand singer-songwriter Gary Mictian to make us a playlist of tunes that have influenced his sound.

Tove Lo – Influence

I really connected with Tove Lo’s Ladywood album. I was so drawn in by her honesty and unrelenting themes of damaged relationships.

Tame Impala – The Less I know the Better

Tame Impala’s sound is just so satisfying to me. Kevin Parker puts so much effort into sculpting his music and I definitely look up to him.

Kimbra – Everybody Knows

Kimbra is one of my favourite artists of all time. I was holding my breath for this album and when I heard this song I had goosebumps all over.

Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World

This is a special song to me, and I greatly admire their songwriting. Their sound is just so iconic, that I’m naturally drawn to it.

Icehouse – Hey Little Girl

“I take a lot of influence from classic Australian music of the 80s. Growing up in NZ it’s always been around. This is just one of many songs from AUS that I love.

Prince – Little Red Corvette

Prince is just an incredible resource for unique and captivating music making.

New Order – Blue Monday

This song introduced me to the electronic world, it changed my view on music making altogether.

The Dream State is available now. Listen here.
