Sweden plans a three day, ‘man-free’ music festival in the wake of widespread sexual assault

Over the weekend it was revealed that Swedish festival Bråvalla had suffered an abnormally high number of sexual assaults, so much so that they’ve cancelled their 2018 event. In the wake of this, Swedish comedian Emma Knyckare has announced her own festival to take its place, and only women are invited.

“What do you think about putting together a really cool festival where only non-men are welcome?” she tweeted, adding that it would take place “until all men learn how to behave”.

Following an inexcusable amount of sexual assaults at a Swedish festival, one women has taken matters into her own hands and promised the country an event free of men.

Bråvalla reported four rapes and 23 sexual assaults on-site last weekend, an abnormally high frequency for a music festival (although it’s far from the first festival where this has been a problem).

Emma Knyckare’s festival is planned for summer 2018, with more details to come.

Some Australian festivals have recently come under fire for similar problems, with several activists and experts putting forward their own plans to eradicate this disgusting issue.

The owner of a large Aussie security company thinks that drone technology could play a large part in the policing of sexual violence at music events, and in February the Victorian Government announced a taskforce to combat sexual harassment at live venues.
