Flying cocks, free karaoke, ubers and breakie burgers. The Belligerents’ guide to surviving Brisbane during BIGSOUND

Brisbane-based groovemeisters The Belligerents have been wreaking the best of havoc on the indie music scene since way back in 2010. This year alone they’ve made the biggest impact, releasing single after single that have given us insight into their froth-worthy musical capabilities.

BIGSOUND is Australia’s quintessential music industry conference and a chance for new, independent artists like The Belligerents to bag themselves some contacts, and if they’re lucky, maybe even a record deal.

The Belligerents are due to be performing as part of this year’s line-up, so we caught up with the guys to get their tips on getting round and surviving the chaos that will be Brisbane on September 7-9.

The Belligerents

Heading to Brisbane for BIGSOUND and need some advice on places to run to, places to avoid and places to acquire a seriously delish hangover brekkie? Look no further than The Belligerents’ guide to Brisbane.

Any tips for getting around?

Uber, Brisbane’s public transport is terrible and horrifically expensive.

Where to get a coffee that doesn’t suck?
In the valley there’s Reverends, LTD or if you want to walk a bit further there’s Bellissimo which is also awesome. Favourite coffee is Blackstar though, which is in West End.

Where is a good place to buy records?
The best place would be Jet Black Cat in West End or Foundry Records in the Valley! Both of them are strong supporters of local music as well which is awesome.

Best place for a hangover breakkie?
Ben’s Burgers in the Valley do a mean breakfast burger. Otherwise Maccas generally comes up with the goods.

Where can you get a good cheap pub feed?
The Flying Cock in the Valley is not necessarily cheap but they’ve got awesome pub style food, otherwise walk a little bit further down the road to the Brunswick Hotel, they’ve got solid food and free Karaoke on Thursdays and Saturdays!

What to do when lockouts hit Fortitude Valley?
Have a quiet night in and enjoy a good conversation with close friends in the comfort of your own home.

Your favourite venues?
The Foundry, Black Bear Lodge, The Tivoli and the Riverstage

Places to avoid?
Woodridge/Logan, can get pretty rough down there.

Who are your picks for the festival?
Dorsal Fins, Fascinator and Rat & Co are all gonna be sick!
