Start prepping for festival season early with these 5 summer essentials

Festival season is fast approaching! It’s the most carefree time of year; the sun is out, uni is over and people just want to let loose and have fun.

To get your mind, body, and soul prepped, we’ve curated a list of essentials every festival frequenter needs heading into summer.

With so many cool things happening over the summer, including the plethora of festivals that seem to pop up every year, it’s easy to forget the essentials when you’re too focused on having fun.

A pair of boots

Festivals can be dangerous places. People are heavier and more violent when they’re full of alcohol. Mosh pits see many a broken toe, and, unfortunately, most festival-goers don’t wear proper footwear to gigs and end up hurting themselves and the people around them.

We’re all about Blundstones. They’re tough, hardy and no-nonsense. They’re also 100% Australian owned, and the company maintain an ethically and environmentally conscious stance on production. They’ll last you all summer, right through to the next – and the next, and the next…

Check out their website and complete your summer look.

Sunscreen

You and your friends aren’t the only things getting smashed this summer. Your skin is your most sensitive organ, and if it’s not getting cared for properly, it’s going to end up feeling worse than you the next morning.

Australia has some of the highest levels of UV radiation the world over. In fact, UV radiation is intense enough to cause sunburn in as little as 10 minutes on a clear summer’s day. Applying sunscreen should be any festival-goer’s number one priority.

A reusable water bottle

Keep yourself hydrated and do your bit for the environment by packing your own reusable water bottle. All good festivals have water filling stations, so, if you remember your bottle, you’re never going to get thirsty.

By packing your own, you’ll save the little bit of cash it costs to buy one (it all adds up), plus, you’re helping out festival organisers by not contributing to the massive rubbish problem that all festivals seem to be faced with upon pack-down.

It might be best to bring it empty, though; sometimes security guards get suspicious of people bringing full bottles of liquid through festival doors.

A good pair of sunglasses

All seasoned festival-goers know how important a good pair of sunglasses are to enhance the visual experience. Imagine trying to enjoy a set and not being able to see anything because the sun is shining way too bright.

You won’t be straining to see your favourite acts when you’re protected from the sun’s rays. Try op-shops or vintage stores for some second-hand funky frames; they’re usually much cheaper, way cooler and your conscience will thank you for not bringing any more unnecessary crap into the world.

Wet wipes

Everyone knows how grimy those festival portaloos can get by the end of the night. If you’re a bit of a germaphobe, sanitising wet wipes can help you feel better about the state of your hands post-toilet run. They’re also great at stripping smelly sweat from your face and the rest of your body, so you can feel fresh for hours on end.

There’s nothing worse than feeling clammy in a public space, especially when it’s so hot and there are so many people around. Chuck some in your bag on your way to any festival.
