We all have that one friend whose opinion can’t be swayed, no matter what. This B-side from Electric Zebra preaches the stubbornness of that mate, the immoveable object who you hate to love.
Rum Ham is a cut which was left out of the Gold Coast rockers’ 2016 Ambition EP, a thrifty, raging piece of dirty, drunken rock and roll. They’ve been nice enough to send it our way, and we couldn’t be happier about getting hammered on this track as our latest exclusive.
An ode to stubborn mates, filthy rock and Danny DeVito, Rum Ham is a ragged rock track drenched in booze from Electric Zebra.
We had a chat to Keelan Sanders, Electric Zebra’s guitarist and vocalist, about how Rum Ham came to be:
“Rum Ham was written a couple of years ago after we binge watched all of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Theres a scene where Danny DeVito bakes a ham in rum so he can get drunk in public.”
“I wanted a chord pattern I could play without moving my fret hand (making it easier to play in dingy dive bars). We threw in some quick bends and fills to spice it up a little but otherwise kept it simple. The lyrics are about people with unmovable opinions who’ve taken it on themselves to forcefully guide everyone’s lives around them.”
“We didn’t end up developing the song for release as we had another song with a similar vibe that was already developed and we didn’t want to be a one trick pony.”
Happy Mag Issue #4 is nearly here! In this issue we chat to Julia Jacklin for our cover interview, go behind the scenes with Sydney’s Polographia and tackle the question: Why are so many festivals still coming through with male-dominated lineups?
