Ever wondered what music does to your brain? This videos breaks down the nuts and bolts of it

There have been numerous studies into how music affects human (and animal) lives, and the general consensus between them seems to be that it can have a profound affects on our psychological  (and physiological) state. But just how deep does this go? A new video essay from Music 8 dives into the nuts and bolts of it.

Mind on Music

Ever wondered what music actually does to your brain? A new video essay called ‘This Is Your Mind on Music’ breaks down the nuts and bolts of it.

Music 8 is a Youtube channel that explores “why we love music and the music we love.” So far there are only two videos live, this one and another on King Gizzard (which is rad too, watch that next).

The video, titled This Is Your Mind on Music, explores how music triggers dopamine release in our brains, and how it interacts with our consciousness  –  specifically our default mode network (DMN), a network of interacting brain regions responsible for our thoughts, feelings and imagination known to have activity highly correlated with each other.

It’s a really interesting and insightful watch. Check it out below.
