Ooooooo. It’s Halloween this weekend. You know what’s better than trick or treating, or egging houses or doing whatever kids do on Halloween is? Seeing gigs. There are some pretty killer shows happening around the country this weekend. You can head over to the Happy gig guide to check them all out, but if you suck at making decisions here are our top picks. And remember, if you’re a muso and want to be in the Gig Guide all you have to do is register with Songkick.

5 gigs Bad Dreems

It’s Halloween this weekend. If you’re planning on hitting the streets, don’t go egging houses – see a gig instead. Here are 5 happening around the country that might tickle your fancy.

Pulled Apart By Horses – Ding Dong Lounge, Friday 30th October

I saw PABH at a carnival-themed warehouse party on Wednesday night, and they blew me away. Their live show is pretty raucous – lots of yelling, distortion and hair. They’re kind of like a British version on DZ Deathrays only a little more classic rock (think The Darkness). They also did a pretty fucking good cover of I Wanna Be Your Dog which always goes down  nicely.

Foreign National & City Calm Down – Black Bear Lodge, Friday 30th October

The dark horse of the I OH YOU roster, City Calm Down have finally emerged from the shadows with some music. And it’s good stuff. The band are at the back end of a pretty massive Australian tour which was mostly sold out. They wrap things up this Friday at Black Bear Lodge alongside Foreign/National, which is a pretty good combo if you ask me.

Kisschasy – The Triffid, Friday 30th October

Kisschasy are in the middle of a massive goodbye. After three albums and a solid decade together, the band are officially calling it quits. To celebrate the band have been playing a handful of shows around the country for their Farewell United Paper People tour. So far these shows have been pretty special. Let your inner angsty teenager run wild.

CW Stoneking – The Triffid, Saturday 31st October

Two pretty special shows at The Triffid in a row. CW Stoneking is modern blues king. This is pretty much the exact opposite activity to egging houses. Grow up and get some blues in to you ya nong. Old mate Peter Bibby is supporting too – he puts on an absolutely ripper show every time.

Bad//Dreems – Amplifier Bar , Saturday 31st October

Bad//Dreems have been going from strength to strength lately. Dogs At Bay is one of the best albums of the year and they have been touring it pretty hard for the past month. Most shows ended up selling out but if you’re in Perth this weekend, be sure to get down to this one. Support comes from Green Buzzard.
