Dream-pop trio Arbes return after a three year hiatus with Strange Power

After a three-year hiatus, Melbourne dream-pop trio Arbes have returned to release-radars everywhere with their new single Strange Power, a dissonant dream-pop hit propelling them into the new year with enough momentum to carry through.

Enigmatic dream-pop trio Arbes return with Strange Power, their first release since their sophomore EP Psalms back in 2016.

Formed in 2013, Arbes has made a name for themselves on both a local and international level, having dominated the Melbourne live circuit since their early days. They’ve developed an international fanbase through their Psalms EP, released by US label Sports Day Records, and have been on heavy rotation on streaming platforms Spotify and Bandcamp.

Strange Power marks the beginning of a new era for the is the enigmatic trio, with two EPs already under their belt; 2015’s Swimmer and Psalms, released back in 2016.

Strange Power was filmed on location in Lorne and features the nonchalant trio in an almost Moonrise Kingdom-esque setting. The track is striking in its dreamlike dissonance; frontwoman Jess’ lusty voice asserts itself over the track’s dream-like psych-pop sounds. The track both begins and ends powerfully; an authoritative rhythm section and warped synth sounds dominate the track.  Check it out below:

Arbes’ latest release has come two days before they’re set to play the Strange Power single launch at Melbourne’s The Workers Club. The band will be playing alongside Annaliese Rose (with band) and Carcatu this Friday, January 17th, in Fitzroy. For more details, head to the Facebook event page.
