Dr. Dre is set to develop a Marvin Gaye biopic

In his first crack at a feature film since 2015’s Straight Outta Compton, legendary rapper/producer Dr. Dre is working on a biopic about the late Marvin Gaye.

Variety reports that Dr. Dre has acquired the rights to use Gaye’s music, with approval from the Gaye family estate.

Having scored the rights to use Gaye’s iconic discography, Dr. Dre is set to be creating a Marvin Gaye biopic. We can’t bloody wait.

Gaye, whose catalogue includes such bangers as Sexual Healing and Let’s Get It On, was shot by his father in their Los Angeles home in 1984, aged 44.

The biopic will not be the first time someone has attempted to bring Gaye’s life to the screen, with Jamie Foxx scoring the rights for TV series in 2016.

Foxx’s attempted project was the first to be approved by the Gaye family, though there has been no development on that front in the years since.
