Having spent 2015 fine tuning their sound and live show emanation, slacker indie pop outfit, Australia are ready to bring their energetic shows nationwide in the land down under. The trio have taken opportunities to limber up from all kinds of stages including underground gigs all the way to a sold out show at The Metro with Lime Cordiale.
Indie pop legends Australia hark back to the glory days of the 80’s in their new single Love is Better and plan on bringing those vibes to the stage
Taking Sydney town out for all they can, the lads from Australia are itching to get on the sunburned country road trail and bring everything good about 80’s pop to your doorstep, leaving the rest behind in 1984. Singles Wake in Fright and Who R U? have given us a little lick for what is to come on their debut passionate pop album Portraits of People, Places and Movies.
Soaked in disco guitar vibes, the third single Love is Better is all about the groove and captivating synths. An upbeat fast paced track jam packed with percussion drawing on inspirations like Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club and Medium Medium. “Then we basically just tried to see how many hooks we could fit into three minutes…and a synth solo.” states vocalist Guy Fenech.
When you have Linda Marigliano proclaiming “Like an unexpected drop bear, the hooks will assault you out of nowhere and leave you bloodied yet gagging for more”, you know your fellow Aussie punters won’t be able to resist the #straya and Icehouse style charm on Love is Better.

“The album was made in a house in Gerringong on the NSW south Coast by us (Guy Fenech, Nick Franklin and Oly Marlan) Fenech says. “We pooled all our equipment and borrowed anything friends could spare. Guy had written the shells of all the songs beforehand and we fleshed them out together, finalising structure and instrumentation.” With the core members of the group being producers in their own right, it is only logical that the album would be a love affair of open creation and an ecstatic energy only found with producing experience.
When asked about any rituals before facing the crowds Fenech replied “We‘re all very tight mates so we kind of just bounce off one another before a show. Wade Keighran (bass) also likes to drape scarfs across the face of his bass cab. Dress it up like a little Kevin Parker.”
Portraits of People, Places and Movies will be out March 8th, with 8 tracks of “big productions with a couple of softer more sentimental numbers than what you have heard so far.” It will be released digitally as well as a limited run on vinyl.
