Last night wrapped up the biggest night in Australian music, the 2017 ARIAs. Here’s what went down.

Gang of Youths dominated the ARIAs, no questions asked. The Sydney rockers took out three major awards off the back for their 2017 record, Go Farther Lightness: Album of the Year, Best Rock Act, and Best Group.

Amy Shark, Paul Kelly and A.B Original also dominated the night, taking out multiple awards each. Shark won Best Pop Release and Breakthrough Artist for her album Night Thinker. The legendary Paul Kelly took out awards for Best Male Artist, and Best Adult Contemporary artist. And A.B Original’s brilliant 2016 release Reclaim Australia won Best Independent Release and Best Urban Release. During his acceptance speech, Briggs called the album a successful attempt to “upset all those rednecks”.

The red carpet also saw its share of controversy, with Kirin J. Callinan getting his dick out for some reason. As you’d expect the backlash came flooding in soon after, with critics taking to social media to berate him for indecent exposure.

While others brushed it off as a part of his lampooning persona.

To wrap up the night, Jimmy Barnes took to the stage to pay tribute to the late Malcolm Young with a cover of AC/DC’s High Voltage. Check it out below.

Paul Kelly also recruited Dan Sultan and A.B. Original for a performance of his 1989 tune Dumb Things. Amy Shark performed her hit Adore, and Lorde also took to the stage to sing a medley of Liability and Green Light.
