Aside from really really liking their tunes, I’d first just like to say props to anyone who decides to take a picture of an acne covered Harry Styles and use it as artwork for their music. Exactly what Collarbones have done for their most recent song Teenage Dream. We need more of this brilliance. Thumbs up.
Somewhere within the vast realms of the internet, back in 2007, Travis Cook and Marcus Whale magically connected, and Collarbones was born. Whale resides in Sydney, Cook in Adelaide and the two often produce music together from these separate places – as the picture below illustrates. Technology, yeah!
It all blends and pulses and spans genres, but flows together; there are slick transitions between busier and more minimal parts. Much of it is nostalgic, and serves to document the vulnerability and awkwardness of teenage years. Desire. Unrequited emotions. Oh, lost confused youth!
The duo’s SMAC nominated album, Die Young released in September 2012 delves into of ambient, bassy electronic worlds, as well as including hints of J Dilla style hip hop and some R&B vibes too, particularly on the track with HTML Flowers. The album also features the beautiful vocals of Guerre. Collarbones’ music feels good to chill to, but would also sound great on a big soundsystem. They were on the bill for Strawberry Fields this year and you should keep an eye and ear on them.
