Check out Mac DeMarco’s newest cover, a Japanese jazz fusion classic

Mac DeMarco has just released his cover of Haruomi Hosono’s Honey Moon, after previously live streaming it on his super top secret YouTube channel CAM TONY.

Honey Moon originally featured on Hosono’s album Tropical Dandy, which highlights the Japanese artist’s signature tropical themes and instrumentals.

Mac DeMarco’s version of the 1975 Japanese classic will be available through Light in the Attic, who will also release a limited edition vinyl featuring the original Haruomi Hosono rendition on the B-side.

This is DeMarco’s second time preparing his personalised rendition of a Japanese classic. Last month at Fuji Rock Festival Mac set aside a portion of his set to play a cover of chart topping Japanese crooner, Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto, alongside his unlikely collaborator Post Malone.

DeMarco has been frequently releasing glimpses of tracks while streaming live sessions from his studio. Honey Moon was one of the more recent full tracks he’s released.

Check out the cover below.

Early this month DeMarco announced the release of his very own record label, aptly named Mac’s Record Label.

The brand new label has yet to announce any artists under its name, but we do know that it will be distributed under Universal Music Group’s Caroline.

Alongside the release of Honey Moon, DeMarco has announced he will be going on a US solo tour later on in the year.
