Capewolf are the cool cuties carving up Sydney’s scene with their authentic indie pop

Fresh out of high school, Capewolf pack a punch and are sinking their teeth into Sydney’s music scene.

Reveling in heavy hearted lyrics, sharp guitar riffs and an undivided stage charisma, Capewolf are as genuine as any indie pop band could ever strive to be.

Waiting for the real deal? Capewolf are Newtown’s peachiest indie pop quartet, spreading authenticity and wonder wherever they tread.

Band mates Astari Mudana, Natalie Parker and Rhian Mordaunt met in 2013 at Bondi Wave and drummer Nicolai Laptev joined in 2014.

“We played together in a couple of different line-ups, but we officially became Capewolf towards the end of 2014 when we got our drummer Nic to join the band.”

Radiating an ultra cool on-stage vibe sets them apart from other pop bands in their local area. Smiling, giggling and ripping some skillful riffs, Capewolf seem to have as much fun on stage as their audience does.

“We’ve been lucky enough to play with a lot of really great local bands over the past year or two. We’ve had some great shows with Cosmic Flanders, Mac the Knife and Dying Adolescence. We’re all obsessed with Egoism as well, and they’ve just been consistently making great music (they just dropped their EP and it’s killer!).”

Take Knocks, a perfectly peachy pop song which doubles as a feel-good “fuck you!” remedy, or Lemonade for when you’re thirsty for some cathartic cultivation.

Performing in a tiny room underneath Petersham Bowling Club on February 16, Capewolf dominated the stage with a mix of originals and covers of PPP by Beach House and You by The 1975. They tested the waters with Blue, a song they’d never played live before or even recorded. It was definitely a crowd pleaser.

“The gig was great, we’ve played at the Petersham Bowlo a few times and it’s always a nice atmosphere. It was also pretty cool to play some of our new songs in front of an audience for the first time.”

So what’s coming up this year?

Hopefully this year will be a productive one for us now that we’ve all finished high school and have more free time to play shows and record new music. Hopefully we get a few new songs recorded throughout the year and play some shows possibly out of Sydney.”
