By now there’s been a few musicians and public figures who have put into words the ugly taste 2016 left in our mouths, but a very small number have iterated the feeling so broadly or so eloquently as Eno just did.

“This process of decivilisation grew out of an ideology which sneered at social generosity and championed a sort of righteous selfishness.”

“Last year people started waking up to this. A lot of them, in their anger, grabbed the nearest Trump-like object and hit the Establishment over the head with it. But those were just the most conspicuous, media-tasty awakenings.”

If reading posts like this fills you with an overwhelming, swelling anxiety for times to come, there’s an easy treatment. Just remember you can listen to Eno’s new album Reflections forever.
