Bohemian Rhapsody has been streamed more than any other song in the 20th century

Bohemian Rhapsody has been crowned the reigning Queen of online streams for the previous century.

The most streamed song also contains the most recognisable lyrics of the 20th century including “little silhouetto of a man” and “scaramouche, scaramouche”, best sung in four-part harmony with your friends in the car/anywhere.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Queen’s modern masterpiece Bohemian Rhapsody has taken the title of most streamed song of the 20th century and no one is shocked.

This championship title was announced by Universal Music Group today after it exceeded 1.6bn streams worldwide on 10 December, across all services. It surpassed Nirvana‘s 1991 grunge rock classic Smells Like Team Spirit with 1.5bn streams.

The recent Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody has upshot the already revered song of the same name into streaming history. This film, released in early November, made nearly $600m at the global box-office. By the week of November 22, it was number 11 on Spotify for the most worldwide streams.

The track has thrice made its way into the Billboard 100 as of November, the second time it charted being after the release of Wayne’s World in 1991.

The track was first released as a single on October 31, 1975.
