Want to play BIGSOUND 2018? Artist applications are officially open!

By News

Australia’s largest music conference is back. BIGSOUND 2018 artist applications are now officially open.

We had a ball at BIGSOUND 2017, soaking up sets from artists like Party Dozen, Baker Boy, Stella Donnelly and Kardajala Kirridarra – all of whom have gone on to kick huge goals since. Playing there is far larger than your usual festival set, it puts you in front of the highest concentration of music tastemakers, scouts and industry personnel Australia sees.

Think you’ve got the chops to own BIGSOUND 2018? Now’s the time to put in your artist application, and show Australia what you’ve got.

Not to mention, this year will see the return of the $100,000 Levi’s Music Prize, a grant split between four Bigsound artists. So far Stella Donnelly and Alex Lahey have both enjoyed a $25,000 slice of the pie, with two more winners to be announced before the upcoming festival.

On top of this, the festival will be branching beyond the realm of music, calling in figureheads from a far wider cultural lens.

Onto the event itself, BIGSOUND 2018 is changing the game in more ways than one. Newly appointed First Nations producer Alethea Beetson will be working with the organisers of the event to ensure it’s cultural appropriateness, discounted ticket will be offered to students for the first time, and the music tech portion of the festival will be greatly expanded.

“We want to use BIGSOUND this year as an opportunity to create growth not just in the music business and economy, but culturally and socially too,” said Executive Programmer Maggie Collins.

“We will be inviting people from across the community to help us reimagine the future of the music industry and open our eyes to new ways of doing things, including thought-leaders from other fields like sport, entertainment, design, psychology and more.”

BIGSOUND 2018 takes place September 4-7 in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. Festival and delegate tickets, artist applications, and all further information can be found on the official website.
