Benefits share incredibly infectious new single Waste My Time

Although they’ve been playing together for years, Sydney outfit Benefits have just shared their debut single Waste My Time… and let me tell you, it’s a belter.

With jangly, fuzzed-out guitar lines and woozy vocal hooks, this new track will be stuck in your head for days. Not that you’ll be complaining.

Waste My Time, the incredibly addictive new single from Sydney outfit Benefits, feels simultaneously laid-back and energetic.

Benefits is the recording project of Mason Lewtas (Deep Sea Arcade, Hedge Fund), though they’ve now rounded out their lineup with Ben Cauduro on keys and vocals, Matthew Bilic on bass and vocals, and Jordan Quilty on drums.

On Waste My Time, the band breeze through a hypnotic melting pot of psych, indie-rock, and pop to craft a sound that belongs entirely to themselves.

Sitting on the song for a so long after it was written and recorded has meant that how I think about it has changed, but I guess it’s got a general mood of feeling stuck,” Lewtas says of the track.

I always thought it could be in the soundtrack of a movie while the main character is doing something really mundane like brushing his teeth or something, like the first scene in Dodgeball where Vince Vaughn wakes up on the couch.”

While the song does possess a laid-back vibe, it never fails to feel vibrant and energetic.

Do yourself a favour and listen to Waste My Time above, and catch Benefits live at Waywards on September 6th for their single launch show. More info here.
