Every year the Australian Music Prize honours the greatest Australian albums of the year.

The Australian Music Prize has been running for 14 years now with an aim of honouring outstanding creativity in Australian music. The winner walks away with a tasty $30 000 in prize money, which really helps in continuing to record and release new music! Or go on a holiday…

Nine of the best Australian albums of 2018 have been named in the shortlist for the 14th annual Australian Music Prize… and we don’t envy the judges.

Last year, Sydney-based artist Sampa the Great took the cake with her album The Birds and the BEE9 and has since been busy touring Australia and Europe.

Contemporary favourites Courtney Barnett and The Presets have made the 2018 shortlist, alongside seven other well-deserved spots. This year’s list is extremely versatile and ignores politics, genre and popularity. Who do you think will take out the prize in Melbourne on May 7th? The full shortlist is below.
