Sad Grrrls Festival is one heck of a celebration.
Serving as Aus’ biggest music festival to feature only female and non-binary vocalists, the diverse celebration is held annually in Sydney, with this year’s addition of a Melbourne show.

Event organiser Rachel Maria Cox, and their DIY record label and booking agency Sad Grrrls Club, founded the 100% independent festival in 2015 as a way to celebrate the women of the music biz who are kicking butt, and doing so with unparalleled sass, and sure-fire talent.
Receiving zero funding from commercial sponsors, they fund the majority of the event themselves, giving them total creative control, and the freedom to hand-pick the best line up possible.
We caught up with the boss to find out the top 5 things they’re looking forward to about the event, and why we should be excited too:
1. Not being harassed, or feeling unsafe. I know that should be a really basic thing, but we are so passionate about making sure everyone is aware of the safer spaces policy, that this is something we pride ourselves on!
2. Having a dance to Jackie Brown Jr., Coda Conduct, Le Pie, DJ Claire Knight, Yon Plume DJs, Annais Paris, and rocking out to Miss Destiny, Dark Fair, Claws & Organs, Camp Cope, The Girl Fridas, JuliaWhy? Chelsea Bleach, Shiny Coin and Morning TV.
3. Being blown away by the voices of Emma Dean, Stellar Addiction, Hannah Robinson, Tess Killalea, Clews, La Vif, The Bad Bitch Choir, Missing Children, Twin Caverns, Jaala, Jess Ribeiro, Samara Cullen, Sandy Hsu, Dogood, Eli Cash, and Jo Neugebauer.

If last year’s festival is anything to go by, this year’s is bound to be a snazzy one, so have your boogie shoes at the ready, and be prepared to get down to some of Aussie music’s finest.
The Melbourne festival will be held at the Reverence Hotel Footscray on Saturday October 1st, and the Sydney festival will be held at the Factory Floor, Marrickville the following Saturday October 8th. RSVP and get tickets here.
