Amaya Laucirica – Sway

It’s no secret that Australia is the epicentre of talented female vocalists, with the multitude of local talent that has come out of here recently – Gossling, Owl Eyes and Little May to name a few. In spite of this, I can’t help but feel like I’ve actually found some secret with Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Amaya Laucirica.

Amaya Laucirica

Born in rural South Australia, Laucirica relocated to Sydney at 18 before settling down in Melbourne, where she put together a band and recorded her debut EP. Fast-forward to 2014 and she’s already released two gorgeous indie-alternative-cross-dream-pop albums, Sugar Lights and Early Summer, and had support gigs for the likes of Blonde Redhead, Holly Miranda, Mark Lanegan and Adalita.

Gearing up for her next album Sway, scheduled for an April 18th release, Laucirica has generously treated us with three intriguing and beautiful tracks. Found Some Secret, the new album’s first single, is a unique exploration of folk, ambient rock, psychedelic and dream pop textures which together construct an ethereal and dynamic soundscape. A glorious aural landscape is built through rich lyrical imagery – stars will fall away, the sun is on its way – expressed through Laucirica’s haunting vocals.

Last month saw the release of Sway’s second singles Prettier Than The Sound and On The Air as a special double A-Side. Featuring Adalita on backing vocals and JP Shilo on guitar, Prettier Than The Sound is a chilled out, wistful summer track with just the right balance of diversified textures and delicate vocal harmonies.

Sway will be released through MGM on April 18. Amaya Laucirica will launch the album through a national tour in May and June. Dates are:
