Our last Needle in the Hay vinyl competition was an absolute success. After listening to many hundreds of entries, Kardajala Kirridarra were crowned as winners for their self-titled debut album, being pressed at Zenith Records as we speak.
Now we’re with Needle in the Hay – The 7″ Singles Edition. And thanks to the participation of our partners, it’s bigger ever before.
With vinyl, synths, studio gear and a high production video up for grabs, Needle in the Hay has kicked things up a notch for the Singles Edition.
Needle in the Hay is about giving new musicians a shot in the arm when they need it most. It’s why each and every prize has been chosen to give your act a step up, whether it be by way of gear, tech, or some shiny shiny wax.
Just like the inaugural comp, the winners will be taking home 250 vinyl copies of their single with full colour packaging, pressed at Australia’s only dedicated vinyl plant Zenith Records. To spice up the grand prize, JMC Academy have offered up a high-production, filmed live recording of the track in their studio. Together, this makes our top prize worth $5,000.
Second place will receive up to $2000 worth of studio gear from Audio-Technica Australia. From high-quality microphones to some of the best headphones on the market, AT offer up the kind of studio gear every musician needs.
Third place will receive a fabled MicroKORG, worth $800. The synth and vocoder is easily amongst the most celebrated of its kind, first released back in 2002 and remaining in production to this day.
Fourth place will receive a $700 software bundle from IK Multimedia, world leaders in the digital music sphere. Software instruments, apps and digital creation tools are well and truly at the forefront of music making today, and IK have been doing it since 1996.
The remaining six finalists will be able to cash in a single mastering pack from Enmore Audio, valued at $200. Whether you want to spice up the track you entered or keep it in the bank for your next release is up to you.
