After almost 2 years of neglect, iconic Melbourne venue The Espy is set to reopen

Beachside suburbs in Melbourne sit in a little bit of strange place when it comes to live music. They don’t boast nearly the venue numbers or frequency of inner city suburbs, and thus are often held up by one or two uber-venues. For much of St. Kilda’s history, that drawcard was The Espy.

But unfortunately, its doors have been shut for the better part of the last two years. However, an unnamed hospitality source has revealed to The Age that the iconic venue has been sold to prominent hotel owner Sand Hill Road, and is due for a major facelift and imminent reopening.

Been missing The Espy in St. Kilda for a little too long? The multi-staged music venue will soon see a major reinventionĀ under new ownership.

The Esplanade Hotel has been operating for 139 years, a complete landmark upon St. Kilda’s history. Any venue reopening is good news, but especially one so prolific.

The 1700 person venue was suddenly closed in 2015 and has remained shuttered ever since. Hopefully, not for much longer.
