It’s that time of year again. The time of year when we scour the depths of Australia and New Zealand to bring you some raw talent as part of our Needle in the Hay vinyl competition.
To celebrate, we’ve been bringing you our favourite artists from each state in the country as well as New Zealand. Next up is South Australia.
Having raised some of the country’s favourite acts such as Cold Chisel, The Superjesus, and more recently BAD//DREEMS, South Australia is out to prove that it’s got a lot more going for it than just it’s incredible wineries (though shit, those are pretty good).
We’re looking all over Australia, giving one artist the chance to press their single to vinyl. Here are 5 artists from South Australia we’re digging.
The 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist has been making music in some form since the age of four, having learned the piano, drums, and developed a rather incredible voice along the way.
If you’re most at home between a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, Allume will be for you. A solo project composing soft vocal dreamscapes, Allume’s music is honestly just something beautiful to behold.
So turn that volume knob righ down, cuddle up in your snuggliest blanket, and listen to her stunning track BIRTHDAY.
Horror My Friend
Full of vitriol, Horror My Friend seem to pour every last bit of themselves into everything they release. Their latest single Pavement is bursting at the seams with power and energy; a true force of nature taking aim at gender inequality in the music industry.
Having already layed down slots at Groovin’ The Moo, Blurst Of Times, and Stonecutters, Horror My Friend still have a lot steam in the tank. Expect to see more of these guys very soon.
The Hard Aches
These guys tour like absolute machines. A two-piece hailing from Adelaide, The Hard Aches have spent over five years straight hitting stages, breaking hearts and generally cementing themselves as kings in the SA rock space.
Their latest single Mess precedes an album of the same name, due to be released in April. Get around it.
The San Sebastian
Dan and Joel Crannitch are The San Sebastian, two brothers making fantastic indie rock with a country twang. Formerly members of the acclaimed Leader Cheetah, the pair have taken a softer route on their latest endeavour and we couldn’t be happier with the result.
Wildfire quietly appeared on Unearthed in January, seeming to fly under the radar so far. Give it a spin while it’s still hush hush, you really won’t regret it.
