Sticky Fingers – Land of Pleasure

So the boys from Newtown are back and boy have they made an entrance! The anticipation for fans ended on August 1st when Sticky Fingers released their new album, Land of Pleasure. A perfect follow up for the indie band from their debut album Caress Your Soul, the LP shows the bands progression and growth since March 2013.

First they Caressed Your Soul and now they’re taking you to the Land Of Pleasure – listen to the new Sticky Fingers

Land of Pleasure has a more pop and psychedelic feel to it compared to their debut, whilst still retaining the reggae qualities the boys are famous for. It is clear when you listen to the Land of Pleasure, that the songs aren’t merely ones that have been thrown together to fill an album. Dylan, Paddy, Seamus, Freddy and Beaker have thought about the album, piece by piece, to produce a seamless flow and musical journey for the listener.

Title track Land of Pleasure opens the album with a light and airy intro to get you comfortable and settled. From here the song explores diverse elements of rock, electro and psychedelia, and placing this song as the intro for the album is a perfect fit. Land of Pleasure sets you up and says “right settle in- its Sticky Fingers time!”

Greeted with a piano intro, diving headlong into the body of the song, only to be built up to the point of explosion in the chorus – Just For You is one the standouts from the album. Imagine the heat of a summers day seeping into your skin and dirt covering your shoes, crowds of people surrounding you and stage lights strobe from up ahead. The intro starts to play and the anticipation kicks in. Your body responds to the music in the pre-chorus and you feel the build. The chorus drops and the crowd starts to jump and dance. Screaming the lyrics out loud, it’s nothing but sheer electricity. This feeling epitomises Just for You.

Rum Rage has the most stripped back and natural feel to it in comparison the other songs from the album. Mainly focused around the sounds of the guitar, psychedelic elements and storytelling lyrics, Rum Rage reaches out to a different music demographic. Being surrounded with songs of a faster tempo, this song slows the album down and creates a wave away from the previous and following songs. It’s a wave that belongs, adding another layer which provides the album with a greater depth and connection for the listener.

Providing a sneak of what was to come, Sticky Fingers previewed some of their songs at Splendour in the Grass last month, and they were received by a very positive and enthusiastic response from the audience. Is the band having a tour for their Land of Pleasure album? Oh yes, yes they are!

The tour kicks off at Transit Bar on September 4th in Canberra, ACT and makes its way around Australia to finish in Byron Bay on October 18th. Land of pleasure is an amazing second album from the Sticky Fingers boys and definitely lives up to the anticipation and hype surrounding its release.
