The ’60s and ’70s were a beautiful time for experimental music. John Cage had carved a path through avant-garde composition with his teachings on silence, the word ‘ambient’ would soon become cannon thanks to Brian Eno’s Music For Airports, and Irv Teibel released the hugely influential environments series.
The recordings, released between 1969 and 1979, were the first publicly available psychoacoustic recordings the world saw, and played a huge part in the music world’s sparking interest in ambient and environmental sound.
All of Irv Teibel’s landmark collections of environmental recordings have been released together, in an easy-to-digest app format.
Tracks include Psychologically Ultimate Seashore, Gentle Rain In A Forest (Synthetic Silence), Dawn In The Okefenokee Swamp and English Meadow, which all sound pretty damn zen, if you ask me.
The iOS app features over 14 hours of material and ships with some convenient features, such as being able to create your own playlists or place your favourite recordings on an infinite loop.
