Native to Sydney, Whispering Jackie are the pop punk three piece that have exploded onto the scene, soaked in sun-drenched rhythms with an instant nostalgia for music that shaped the ’90s.
Crafting a DIY legacy, Whispering Jackie threw their weight into the already heavily talented Aussie music scene in early 2016, wrapping up the year with debut EP Social Isolation. Gaining non-stop radio play on Brisbane’s 4ZZZ, FBi Radio in Sydney and triple j Unearthed, it was only a matter of time before another masterpiece was created and delivered straight to our ears.
Reckless, raw and lyrical, For The Moment manages to manifest everything you’d hear in a classic ’90s pop punk EP, from the catchy hooks to a self-confessed heartache.
For The Moment is Whispering Jackie’s latest offering, compiled of five jam-packed tracks dripping with attitude. Beginning with an distorted eruption, first track on the record Breaking Up This Time bursts into a fast pace with drums, fuzzed out guitars and anthemic vocals.
Creating something that sits directly between surf rock and more conventional punk, For The Moment is unique blend of FIDLAR, Best Coast, Skeggs and ’90s favourite Garbage.
“Are we breaking up this time? Cause I don’t want to,” are the stand-out lyrics of the track and ones you simply won’t be able to shake, serving as both a contagious and relatable chorus line. The honest lyrics are present throughout the whole EP, with Fast Life composing reckless, anthemic lyrics such as, “Living for the moment,” and “Better to burn out than to fade away,” that add to the record’s ass-kicking, not-giving-a-fuck vibe.
It’s everything from the vocal harmonies to the heavily guitar-driven choruses in Why that immediately reminds us of 10 Things I Hate About You or The Breakfast Club, leaving us wondering which iconic coming-of-age flick this tune will soon soundtrack.
Nailing a garage rock, grunge infested sound whilst remaining upbeat and positively energetic, For The Moment serves as a rebellious party soundtrack reminiscent of a decade where high-waisted jeans were unheard of and frosted blonde tips were hot AF.
