Known for their wide use of samples to create their music, The Avalanches have to be some of the most well-listened musicians on the market. Their seminal 2000 album Since I Left You was comprised of an estimated 3,500 samples from sources far and wide.
The way such a variety of music is brought together under their banner is mind-boggling, and this mix is no exception. It contains music from pedal-royalty Ratatat and legendary rap DJ Madlib, classic rock preachers The Stooges and jazz activist Nina Simone. About a quarter of the way into the program, we’re pretty sure there’s a kazoo cover of Stayin’ Alive.
