What do you do with your old junk? Meet the artist creating beautiful pictures of pop culture icons out of trash

What do you see when you look at trash? A waste of space? A pain in your arse? A huge pile of buyer’s remorse?

When Bernard Pras sees a pile of junk he sees opportunity. An old orange? Jack Nicolson’s forehead. Strips of rubber tires? Bob Marley’s dreads. That toy pig? Mick Jagger’s chin.

Bernard Pras

What do you do with your old junk? Meet the artist creating beautiful pictures of pop culture icons out of trash, from Jagger and Bowie to Warhol and Basquiat.

The French painter, photographer, and sculptor has been creating portraits out of everyday objects such as toys, textiles, wood, clothing and whatever else he could get his junk-hungry hands on for over twenty years. He uses these mundane objects to create beautiful, often haunting interpretations of pop culture icons, from Mick Jagger and Bowie to Andy Warhol and Einstein.

Trash never looked so good. See a selection of his works below.
