Twin Towns

OK, I know it’s all about the music but what about when a band has charisma? A sense of humour? Does anyone appreciate this as much as me? No? Anyone? Well allow me to introduce to you David Lyndon and Rees Steel who are Twin Towns – Sydney’s newest paracetamol duo and king hitmakers – their words and wit not mine.

Here are some more words from them that I wouldn’t be capable of writing myself: “It’s adult contemporary music for life under the liberal party.” ZING! The pair have just released two new videos that demonstrates their rare breed of music that sort of straddles the sphere of Australiana post-punk/post-rock type thing. Make sense yeah?

The video for the cover of Venom P Stinger’s Walking About is a perfect mash up of grainy footage from the 80s with the smoky vibes of the duo that is slow, slithery and sexy. It languishes in dark corners and features both sex and violence. Your mum probably won’t like it, not unless she’s one of those ‘fun, down-with-the-kids mums’. Did I mention the music is spectacular?

Similarly, the video for Newman, an ode to Australia’s shittest place, also boasts grainy stock footage of the Australian outback. It’s apathetic, nostalgic rock with plenty of angst ridden guitars. It’s highly charged. As they say “real feel good party jams”. Damn they’re good. You’ll love Twin Towns is you like your music murky, quirky, deep and dark. It can be quite cathartic if you’re on a Debbie downer.

The guys have just played in New Zealand at (the last ever) Camp a Low Hum, they love a good GIF and will soon launch a limited edition white VHS EP (VHS???!!!) Superimposition. It’s more than a little bit exciting.
