Floating aimlessly through outer space? Twelve Ballet’s new offering is the perfect soundtrack

When it comes to Aussie music, siblings make for a pretty unbeatable dynamic. We’ve witnessed it with favourite brother and sister duo Angus & Julia Stone to all girl gangĀ Stonefield, right down to the classics like AC/DC.

All sibling rivalries seem to go out the window when it comes to making music. The same can be said for Ben and Sam, a diabolic duo from Cairns that are otherwise known as Twelve Ballet.

Twelve Ballet are a brother/sister duo that dance between indie pop and alternative blues, turning everyday concepts into ambient synths and tender sounding melodies.

Formerly going by the name of Glider Pilots, the pair have embarked on a silky smooth sonic journey, crafting warm and dreamy tunes in the electronic genre. Recording songs since high school inspired by the likes of Alt-J and The xx, Twelve Ballet are attracted to a minimalistic style and flawless mastering which they now incorporate into their own sound.

With a home studio and knack for recording whenever an idea strikes, Twelve Ballet have jumped down the rabbit hole yet again, whipping up brand new tune Aren’t We Too Old. Beginning with a soft beat and Sam’s angelic vocals, the uplifting track is a soothing four minutes of dreamy synths and cruisy guitar riffs.

Soft and ethereal, Aren’t We Too Old takes you on a magic carpet ride through floaty pads and emotive lyricism and you can’t help but feel engulfed by its out of this world vibe. With lines like “Curls get the girls”, it only takes one listen to fall head over heals for this soothing combination of production and vocals.

Incorporating everything from synths to piano, guitar and drums, Twelve Ballet always tell a story with their music and Aren’t We Too Old is no exception for the alt-pop duo. The pair have promised big things for 2018, so keep your eyes and ears peeled!
