Tissues out: Jack White has over-delivered in the emotional department with this acoustic performance live on Jimmy Fallon

More Jack White is always a treat. Even aside from being heralded as one of the planet’s leading guitarists, the songwriter has left a major mark on the musical timeline through his work with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and other collaborations.

Over the weekend White released his new record Acoustic Recordings 1998-2015, a 26 track collection of stripped-back versions of known White songs from old acts intermingled with a few new releases. To promote the record, White jumped into the armchair across from talk show host Jimmy Fallon.

You’ll usually find Jack White running his guitar through an amp louder than a plane, but today he treats us to an equally impressive, much quieter show.

After a short, albeit entertaining interview where White rips on Fallon for playing a “beginner’s guitar for children”, the muso jumped on the mic for a live medley performance of the previously unreleased Love Is The Truth and White Stripes’ hit You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket with just his acoustic guitar for accompaniment.

It was a powerful few minutes. White is one of those singers who can’t boast one of the greatest voices, but over-delivers in the emotional department to more than make up for it. His vocals, even cracking once or twice, were the perfect delivery vehicle of such emotionally charged, lyrical songs.

You can watch the full performance below, and the interview if you want some follow-up, or just want to soak in White’s coolness.
