Back home and fresh off of his UK tour to celebrate the launch of EP Closer is Sydney-based solo act Thief. It’s strange to think that the man behind it all, PJ Wolf, originally intended his musical work under the guise of Thief to be part of just an experimental side-project. Well… I guess you could say that it turned out okay for PJ.

While his latest sounds have been making international waves of electro-pop on their own, Thief has had no shortage of success here in Australia. To put it quite simply – Thief’s music sees an expert balance of infectious electronic sound paired with genuine emotion behind the lyrics. What is not to love about that?
Last September saw the release of his debut single Broken Boy, which was received incredibly well by many inhabitants of Internetland. The celestial quality of the arpeggiated chords, the divine layers of synth, and PJ’s own Justin-Vernonesque falsetto tell the tale of a ‘broken boy’ in a way that I’m sure most people have been able to relate to at one point or another in their lives.
The success seen from Thief’s critically acclaimed debut lined up a thousands strong fan-base in time for the release of his aforementioned EP in November of last year. While Closer is somewhat shorter in length than its predecessor, it is more upbeat and perhaps less electronically-based, as it has made a very smooth transition into acoustic form, and has now made it impossible for me to tell which one I like better. With performance experience at the US’s famed SXSW festival, Thief is no stranger to the festival circuit – having also played at this year’s Groovin The Moo. Thief gained even more attention when he supported DJ duo The Aston Shuffle, and even embarked on his own national headlining tour earlier this year. But, there is good news if you haven’t already had a chance to see the excellence that is Thief live. He will be supporting The Holidays as of May 28th. Dates are as follows:
